Our colleagues in the Penn State R Users Group passed along a notice about a free online class from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health being offered through Coursera. According to the course description:

[“Computing for Data Analysis“] is about learning the fundamental computing skills necessary for effective data analysis. You will learn to program in R and to use R for reading data, writing functions, making informative graphs, and applying modern statistical methods.

This may be a good opportunity if you’ve been curious about adding R to your data analysis toolkit.

Even if you’re not planning to use R, Coursera has a number of other programs in the area of “Statistics, Data Analysis, and Scientific Computing.” Free courses like those offered by Coursera can be a good way to brush up on your skills or to learn a new technique (or two).
