About 50 people spent part of their Valentine’s Day at the February 14, 2013 IR Interest Group’s presentation about the resources and services of the Pennsylvania State Data Center (PaSDC). Center Director, Sue Copella, and Data Services Unit Manager, Jennifer Shultz, spoke before an audience that was eager to learn.

The presenters talked about the founding of the PaSDC in 1981 by Executive Order of the Governor and it’s charge to serve as Pennsylvania’s official source for population and economic statistics.  The PaSDC is one of five centers within the Institute of State and Regional Affairs at Penn State Harrisburg.  The presentation provided an overview of the Center and details about the products and services of the PaSDC, which have evolved significantly since its founding. They shared examples of current projects and the capabilities of the technology being utilized for those projects.

The Institutional Research Interest Group is a community of practice whose goal is to help strengthen Penn State’s capacity to use data for informed planning and decision making.
